UChicago announces 2026 winners of Quantrell and Ph.D. teaching awards

UChicago annually recognizes faculty for their incredible teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students through the Llewellyn John and Harriet Manchester Quantrell Awards, believed to be the nation’s oldest prize for undergraduate teaching; and the Faculty Awards for Excellence in Ph.D. Teaching and Mentoring, which honor faculty for their work with graduate students.

This year’s awards included two BSD faculty members:

Quantrell Award: Alexander J. Ruthenburg, Associate Professor, Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology
Ph.D. Teaching and Mentoring Award: Wei Wei, Professor of Neurobiology

Faculty receive honors at 2026 Society of General Internal Medicine Annual Meeting

Monica Peek, Neda Laiteerapong, and Elizabeth Tung were all recognized for their work in primary care and research at the 2026 Society of General Internal Medicine meeting in Washington, DC.

Odunsi receives Ellis Island Medal of Honor

Kunle Odunsi, Dean for Oncology and Director of the UChicago Comprehensive Cancer Center, recently received an Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In 1986, Ellis Island Honors Society founded the medal program, which commemorates the indefatigable spirit of those who immigrated to the United States during the Ellis Island era. The Medal is presented annually to those who have shown an outstanding commitment to serving our nation either professionally, culturally or civically, among other criteria
